Govindan Parayil

Professor Parayil is Vice Rector of the United Nations University (UNU) and Director of United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS). Professor Parayil came to the UNU from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Oslo where he held a Professorial chair in Science, Technology and Innovation.  Before that he was with the National University of Singapore as a faculty member in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and served as Head of the Information and Communications Management Programme (2001-2004). He also served (1994-2001) on the faculty of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His previous academic affiliations include Cornell University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. Parayil holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, a MS in Science, Technology and Values from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a MA in Development Economics from the American University, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calicut, India. He has published four books, numerous book chapters and over thirty articles in international journals. He is an editorial board member of several international journals and serves on the Advisory Board of several international research institutes.

 

Gustaaf Geeraerts

Director of Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies

Gustaaf Geeraerts is Professor of International Relations and the Director of the Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies (BICCS), both at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is also an Editorial Board member of Global Society: Journal of Interdisciplinary International Relations. From 2006 to2008 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economic, Social and Political Sciences & Solvay Business School of VUB. Since 1999 Professor Gustaaf Geeraerts holds a Guest Professorship in Political Science at the Renmin University in Beijing. From 1999 until 2004 he was an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent at Canterbury. In the period 1986 to 1990 he was located at the Department of International Relations at the State University of Utrecht where he was specialized in research on the dynamics of international political processes. During that period he was also a member of the Board of Lecturers of the Centre for Advanced Research in International Affairs in the Netherlands (CARIAN). His research interests centre on international relations theory, China’s foreign policy, global governance and security in Europe and East Asia. He is currently working on Chinese perceptions of the EU as a global actor. Among his recent publications are: (with Men Jing), “International Relations Theory in China”, in Global Society, (Vol.15, 2001); (with Men Jing) “China’s Rise and Northeast Asian Security”, in Studia Diplomatica, Vol. 56, (2003), No. 6; (with Eric Remacle and Natalie Pauwels), Dimensions of Peace and Security, Brussels, Peter Lang, (2006),  (with Jonathan Holslag), Macht of Mythe? (Foreign Policy Integration in the European Union: Mission Impossible?), Beijing, Shishi Publishing House, 2003, for which they received a Shanghai Research Reward in 2004.

 

胡志德(Theodore D. Huters

Professor of East Asian Studies at UCLA(University of California, Los Angeles)

胡志德,现为复旦大学当代中国研究中心国际顾问委员会委员,加州大学洛杉矶校区东亚语言文化系教授、副系主任,上海大学客座教授、上海社科院历史研究所特派研究员、华东师范大学客座教授、南开大学客座教授。

美国著名的中国现代文学和文化研究专家。19691月毕业于美国斯坦福大学,获政治学学士学位;19721977年,获得斯坦福大学中文硕士、中文博士学位。曾任加州大学北京研究中心主任。

主要著作有:《钱锺书》(波士顿:G.K. Hall 出版社,1982 ;中文版,北京:中国广播电视出版社,1990年)、《把世界带回家:西学中用在晚清和民初中国》(夏威夷大学出版社,2005年)等,翻译过北岛、汪晖等人的著作。

 

黄晓明

黄晓明教授,现为复旦大学当代中国研究中心国际顾问委员会委员,新西兰惠灵顿维多利亚大学政治学与国际关系系教授、新西兰当代中国研究中心主任。新西兰国籍,祖籍江苏苏州,主要从事国际关系、政治学理论、当代中国政治研究。2004-2006年,曾经担任新西兰惠灵顿维多利亚大学政治学与国际关系系系主任。在黄晓明教授努力下,新西兰惠灵顿维多利亚大学先后与中国政法大学、北京大学、中国人民大学、复旦大学、厦门大学、对外经贸大学、中国社会科学院等中国八所大学和学术研究机构建立起稳定的学术交流机制,并促成了新西兰首个中国研究中心的成立。
