HARVARD CHINA STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Harvard China Student Internship Program aims to create transformational experiences for Harvard College students as they prepare for a lifelong engagement with China. Students are able to experience modern China through their internship placements, as well as gain an introduction to Chinese history and culture.
The 2010 program will run for 10 weeks in the summer and offer internship placements in the Greater China region (mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan), including a week-long group field trip to rural China. Interns must complete the entire 10 week program. The program will be managed by the Harvard Shanghai Office, with support from the Harvard China Fund's Cambridge Office.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students from all years of study and all concentrations are welcome. Chinese fluency is not required, though a familiarity with the language will be useful. Students must have excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills. Students must be able to commit to the entire 10 week program.
Cost: Airfare, housing, and stipend will be covered by the Harvard China Fund and host companies. Once selected, interns will be asked to pay a $2,500 program fee which will help pay the field trip expenses.
Internship period: Monday, June 14, 2009 to Friday, August 20, 2009
Internship sites: Internship placements will be in the Greater China region (mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan). Interns will work in leading multinational and Chinese companies. The list of companies that hosted our 2009 intern students is available on the Harvard China Fund website: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/hcf/internships2009.html
Application process: Applicants should submit their application form by January 29th, 2010. The Program Selection Committee will invite students for interviews in February, and then notify students by March 1, 2009 of their acceptance into the Internship Program.
Applicants should indicate the type of host organization or work they prefer, and their experience/skills on their application forms. While every effort is made to ensure that students have satisfying experiences consistent with their interests, there is no guarantee that placements can be made with specific companies or in specific cities. The program emphasizes on the overall summer experience, not the students company placement.
One letter of recommendation, preferably from a resident dean, a former employer, or a faculty member, is required.
