INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CHINESE-STYLE DEMOCRACY

CALL FOR PAPERS

 

        Conference Topics

        The People’s Republic of China has endeavored tremendously in constructing a democratic political institution during the past six decades. With tortuous and tough explorations, a series of characteristic democratic theories and relevant concrete practices come into place in China, the so-called “Chinese-Style Democracy”.

        Wuhan University is going to host an International Conference on Chinese-Style Democracy on November 13-15, 2009 at Wuhan, Hubei Province, PRC. The major goal will be discussions on theories, systems, processes, developments and circumstances of Chinese-style democracy.

        Sincerely, we hope that this international conference will become a platform for serious communication among domestic and overseas scholars, so as to make a due contribution to the development of democracy theories, promote democratic politics and enhance understanding between Chinese scholars and their counterparts abroad.

        The conference would like to invite renowned scholars from China, as well as from abroad to make keynote speeches. Researchers who are interested in this topic are also warmly welcome to submit their papers and present at the conference.

        SUGGESTED TOPICS

        Participants will be invited to present papers on the following suggested topics:

        1.             Democratization Theories and Research Methods  

        2.             Local Resources of Democratization in China

        3.             Changes of Mainstream Democracy Concepts in Contemporary China

        4.             Globalization, Models of East Asian Democracy and Chinese-Style Democracy

        5.             Economic Development and Chinese-Style Democracy

        6.             Related Research Areas of the Development of Chinese-Style Democracy

        PAPER FORMAT AND REQUIREMENTS

        Papers presented at this conference should not have been published either in China or abroad. New ideas in theory or application are more than welcome. Papers should have an abstract, key words, as well as the full text in Chinese or in English.

        The applicants are required to provide following personal information: education and research background, academic affiliation, relevant publications or papers on the topic of democracy, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address, and send to jjtan6314@whu.edu.cn.

        Organizers of this international conference will conduct peer review to evaluate and select presentation papers. The notification of acceptance and formal invitation will be sent before October 1st, 2009 both by e-mail and mailing.

        The host of the conference has a limited funding to cover the international travel and lodging expenses during the Conference for some of the participants. If you need this financial help, please write to the host also.
